The VakVarjú #CharityService has taken off and is flying donations.

Our family of restaurants, along with others in the hospitality sector, were forced to close at the start of COVID 2020.

After the start of our home delivery service, we launched our VakVarjú #CharityService initiative, with the aim of supporting families and children in even worse situations than ours, as much as we can. Once we have achieved our objectives, we will continue to look for more people in need, working with local governments, NGOs and charities to ensure that our donations go to the right causes.

On this page, we show you who we have sent our goodie bags to with the help of our guests!

29th December 2023 – As in previous years, the owner of the VakVarjú restaurant family, Rudolf Semsei and his wife Eszter Dobay volunteered at the end of December for the Just One Service’s festive lunch, which was organised for our most vulnerable fellow human beings in the day shelter of the help centre in Izabella Street.
The food was lovingly prepared and delivered by the staff of the BlindFur restaurant chain. “It was touching to see the sparkle in the eyes of the people, the gratitude for the fact that we really take care of them, because everyone received a kind word and a thoughtfulness from us,” said Rudolf Semsei, owner of the VakVarjú restaurant family.

29th December 2023 – At the end of the year, our VakVarjú #CharityService took off once again to host a three-course festive lunch for the covid orphans, half-orphans and their companions supported by the István Regőczi Foundation at the VígVarjú.
Since the beginning, our charity has been following the caring activities of the foundation, which is dedicated to supporting children and their families who have lost one or both parents in the covid epidemic. We appreciate the dedicated work of Anita Herczegh, wife of former President János Áder, and her colleagues, and we were delighted to help them round off a full-day programme in the capital with a delicious lunch for their rural beneficiaries.

We launched our VakVarjú #CharityService in 2020, just in time for the pandemic, with the aim of supporting families in difficult circumstances as much as we can.
Supporting initiatives that help children is a priority, not only during the Christmas period, but throughout the year. “As a father of four, these collaborations are also key for me, and I am grateful that we had the opportunity to make the last days of the year a gastronomic memory of the Regőczi Foundation’s beneficiaries’ trip to Pest”, said Rudolf Semsei, owner of the VakVarjú restaurant family.

17th December 2023 – A grateful man is a happy man.

Thank you, it was an uplifting feeling to help children in need together!

We supported the public media’s fundraising programme Good to be Good!
In December 2022, in less than a month, thanks to the helpfulness and generous support of our guests, we supported the fundraising programme of the public media “Good to be Good!” with HUF 800,000, which enabled us to help the National Association of the Hungarian Blind and Visually Impaired.

In the five restaurants of the VakVarjú restaurant family, we donated 100 HUF from the price of each meal, chosen from the unique offers of our chefs, to the fundraising programme “Good to be Good!” between 14 November and 10 December. Together with our guests, we raised 800 000 HUF.

Our donation was presented by Rudolf Semsei, Managing Director of Budapest Party Service Kft., owner of the VakVarjú restaurant family and Dobay Cukrászda, on Duna TV.

“Community building is one of the most important roles nowadays, when at a given moment the guests of our restaurants and our staff can join together for a noble cause. It was uplifting to see the full commitment of my colleagues to the Good to Be Good! programme and equally moving to see the enthusiastic and selfless support of our guests for our charity efforts, for which we thank them. Such collective donations also make us realise that we should be grateful to fate for putting us in a position to support those less fortunate than ourselves,” said Rudolf Semsei.

After the completion of the “Big Weight Loss 2023” challenge, on 13 June, thanks to our colleagues, the VakVarjú #CharityService group of companies flew a donation of 300.000 HUF to the Suhanj! Foundation, which will help our disabled and disabled peers to experience the liberating joy of movement in their everyday lives. The 12-week company challenge was aimed at encouraging employees to adopt a healthier lifestyle. The employees did not only lose weight for their own health, as the total weight they lost during the challenge – 200 kilograms – was transformed into a Forint, which was handed over by Rudolf Semsei, Managing Owner of Budapest Party Service Kft., to Peter Gusztos, the CEO of SUHANJ! Foundation co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
The money went to a very good cause, and it is planned to buy a tandem bike that will allow visually impaired people to experience the joy of cycling.

22th December 2022 – Rudolf Semsei, owner of the VakVarjú restaurants, and his wife Eszter Dobay organized a festive lunch for our homeless fellow human beings in the day shelter of the help centre in Izabella Street as volunteers of the Csak Egyet Szolgálat. The food was lovingly prepared and delivered by our colleagues working in the VakVarjú Csónakház.

“This year our VakVarjú #CharityService has already supported people in need to the tune of nearly two million HUF, but for me this is still one of the most memorable experiences and most moving moments of the year. It’s touching to see the sparkle in our guests’ eyes, the gratitude for being truly taken into account. That we talk to them, care about them, or simply call them by name. Because even though they may not have wealth or an existence, they have a name! Here, every person gets a kind word or a thoughtful word with their meal.
And the most wonderful joy was when I met a fellow waiter at the ceremony, who, now a volunteer, told me that he was also rescued from the streets and from drugs by the association.” Rudolf Semsei, owner.
